Unusual large Venetian glass mirror in the eglomise style

A very sophisticated and elaborate 18th century-style wall mirror, made in Venice, and decorated in the very decorative eglomise style. This is a French term, translating as "gilded glass". Quite simply, the back of a piece of the glass is gilded with gold leaf, and sometimes with silver leaf, to superb effect. The wooden parts are oak, treated with black oil, in keeping with the Venetian mirror-making tradition.
This is a very unusual design, and as is the case with all the mirrors on our site, it can't be found in any UK stores.
