Paired lights can give a fireplace or mirror a sense of symmetry, while a sequence of individual lights can carry a design along a hallway. Position them in relation to the architecture and sightlines, taking account of shades and exposed bulbs as well as the decorative frame.
Wall lights and a central chandelier need not repeat every detail. A shared finish, the shape of a crystal drop or the curve of an arm can establish a connection while allowing each light its own presence.
