This design is typified by the small pieces of conjoined glass which envelop the internal metal frame of the light.
As the merchants and businessmen of 17th century Venice competed with each other to display their vast wealth, chandelier designs were becoming so large that they were breaking under their own weight. The style was designed for the chandeliers of the Rezzonico palaces to allow for their enormous dimensions.
