Murano wall light with amber scavo glass diffuser
A gorgeous traditional amber Venetian ‘scavo’ glass wall lantern with a steel wire frame and amber metal arm, entirely hand-produced on the famous glass-making island of Murano in the Venetian lagoon.
The mould for this beautiful wall lantern is first fashioned from steel wire. The glass-master then blows the molten glass into the frame where it expands into the lovely curved shape you see here, before it is allowed to cool.
A special chemical is used to erode parts of the surface of the glass, to give it the appearance of having been having been buried for a long time, and then dug up. The Italian word for 'dug up' or ‘excavated’ is ‘scavo’ - hence the name of this popular finish.
This lovely lantern is part of a small collection which includes a mix of co-ordinating table, wall ceiling and floor lighting. If you scroll down to the bottom of this page you will find this very special family of products. A single click on any one of the images will send you to the relevant page on our site.
You will also find an additional image showing parts of the lamp in greater detail than we have been able to show you here. This piece may bear some tiny imperfection that will attest to its having been fashioned entirely by hand, thus increasing its value and uniqueness. It is based on a historical design and has been crafted using purely traditional techniques.
