Italian amber 'scavo glass' table lamp
A charming classic Venetian ‘scavo glass’ table light, with a decorative black wire frame, entirely hand-crafted on the famous Venetian island of Murano.
The Italian word ‘scavo’ translates as ‘excavated’ in English. A special chemical is used to erode parts of the surface of the glass, to give it the appearance of having been having been left buried for a long time - hence the name. The amber glass shadediffuser gently diffuses the light, for a soft and warm glow.
This finish is becoming increasingly popular in Italy for those who prefer a more traditional rustic look, and is perfect for a country home or kitchen, with its corrosion resistant frame. The styling works just as well, however, in modern homes.
We are also able to offer you an alternative ‘baloton glass’ finish. The hot blown glass is stamped with a special ‘baloton’ mould to create a raised criss-cross pattern on the glass. This is a very typical centuries-old Venetian glass-making design, which is still very popular today. Please contact us if you would like further information.
